Happy Thanksgiving, boys and girls! Landon and I are so excited that it is Thanksgiving. We love this holiday. Don’t we?

“Oh yes, Lizzie! We do. The food, parades and time with family. It is so wonderful.”
“You are so right. I wonder why Thanksgiving is skipped over sometimes. You know the Christmas songs are on in the stores and the Christmas decorations are up. It’s like people forget this wonderful holiday.”

“It is sad. I do love Christmas, too, but Thanksgiving is a wonderful day.”
One thing we like to do as a family on Thanksgiving is to go around the room and have everyone say something they are thankful for. It is such a great way to pause and think about the blessings we have.

“Lizzie, let’s do it right now. For the boys and girls. I will say something and then you can say something. Maybe it will help the boys and girls take time later to do the same.”
“What a great idea! Do you want to start?”

“Sure. I am thankful for our Great Shepherd. He is the most amazing shepherd ever. He cares for us and loves us. He even disciplines us when we need it. Although I don’t like that part, I know He does it because He loves us and wants us to grow to be good lambs. Our Great Shepherd is just like Jesus. In fact, He is called the Great Shepherd in Hebrews 13:20, “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant.”

“Landon, that is so very true. He is a Great Shepherd. Well, I am thankful for my family. Mommy, Daddy and even you, Landon. Heehee. Truly though. God is so good. My mommy and daddy love us so much and take care of us. I love when they play with us and tell us stories. And although I don’t like when I disappoint them and need to get punished, I know they only want what is best for us.”

We could go on with other things that we are thankful for. Yummy food. A house with toys to play with. Teachers at school that help us learn. Sunday school teachers that teach us Bible stories. The Bible to show us who God is and how much He loves us. Friends that make us laugh. I think you get the idea.

This Thanksgiving, why not give it a try? Ask your mommy and daddy if you can tell them some things that you are thankful for. “That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.” (Psalm 26:7).

Happy Thanksgiving, boys and girls!
